Latest inspection
At its last full inspection (September 2024; report published November 2024), inspectors found outcomes for prisoners were reasonably good for purposeful activity; good for safety, respect and preparation for release. It held 662 people at the time, against an operational capacity of 664.
Inspectors praised strong leadership, excellent staff relationships and a hopeful culture at the G4S-run prison, though cancelled hospital visits and public protection lapses needed attention.
The inspectorate's report on HMP Rye Hill, published in February 2020, found a safe, well-led prison for men convicted of sexual offences, though force, self-harm and education needed attention.
