Latest inspection
At its last full inspection (December 2023; report published April 2024), inspectors found outcomes for prisoners were not sufficiently good for respect and purposeful activity; reasonably good for safety; good for preparation for release. It held 1,182 people at the time, against an operational capacity of 1,192.
Inspectors found the Lancashire prison held back by neglected buildings, drugs and high staff sickness, though strong relationships and good release work stood out.
