Latest inspection
At its last full inspection (January 2022; report published May 2022), inspectors found outcomes for detainees were reasonably good for rehabilitation and release planning; good for safety, respect and purposeful activity. It held 33 detainees at the time, against an operational capacity of 323.
Inspectors praised the supportive culture at the armed forces' detention centre in Colchester, but warned that some detainees convicted of violent offences leave without any supervision in the community.
